This weekend is going to be quite different. Easter is here and it’s time for family, good food, and lots of sweets.
I have to admit that I don’t have much of a sweet tooth, but Porto offers some irresistible options.
So, for the weekend of April 16th, here are my suggestions.
CHOCOLATARIA EQUADOR
Chocolataria Equador is the best place in Porto to buy chocolate. Before trying their chocolate I didn’t know what good chocolate was. It’s great, with lots of options. My favorite is the black chocolate tablet with orange. It’s to die for. It’s expensive but worth it for a special occasion.
SANTINI
I still remember the first time I had ice cream at Santini. I was in Lisbon visiting a friend and she took me there. I could not believe how delicious their ice cream was. Since they opened up in Porto I go there once or twice a year to have my favorite: banana and raspberry ice cream.
LEITARIA DA QUINTA DO PAÇO
I have fond memories of Leitaria da Quinta do Paço. My mother, an avid reader of this newsletter 😉, studied Math at what today is the University of Porto HQ. The original Leitaria da Quinta do Paço is right next to it. I grew up hearing my mother’s stories about the famous eclairs she would eat there while in college. And every time we would come to Porto we would go there together. I still think they are the best.
DONUTS
Donuts are not a Portuguese thing. But recently I wanted to surprise a few friends and decided to buy donuts. There are a few good places to buy donuts in Porto. I ended up ordering donuts from Bombonuts. They were great. But you can also try OpoDonuts and DUH! Vegan.
CONFEITARIAS
And lastly, I also want to share some of my favorite Confeitarias in Porto. My absolute favorite is Nova Real - the croissants are amazing. I love the jesuitas from Confeitaria Moura. They are originally from Santo Tirso, but you can find them at Mercado Bom Sucesso. And this list wouldn’t be complete without mentioning Confeitaria Tavi, Confeitaria do Bolhão, and Confeitaria Petúlia (some say they have the best bolo-rei in Porto. Still to be confirmed).
That’s it for today. Happy Easter! 🥚🐇🐾
A small request: during your Easter family lunch please share this newsletter with your family members and friends. It will help us grow.
Really nice recommendations :) I'm from Santo Tirso, so very happy to see Confeitaria Moura there, you can also find it in Praça D. João and Norteshopping. Or maybe visit Santo Tirso :D
